The Association of British Reindeer Herders is dedicated to supporting reindeer owners and herders across the UK by promoting excellent welfare, husbandry, and ethical care practices. Our aim is to uphold the highest standards of management while encouraging the exchange of knowledge, research, and best practice among members. We also work to represent the interests of British reindeer herders to relevant authorities and the wider public.
Many of you will already be aware of the challenges currently facing the UK reindeer community, particularly the classification of domesticated reindeer as wild. We are fortunate to have leading veterinary experts working with us as we seek an amendment to the Zoo Licensing Act 1981 and the Dangerous Wild Animals Act 2027.
It’s an exciting time to be part of this growing community. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our first conference in Spring 2026 — more details will be shared in January. If you’re interested in joining the committee or helping in any way, please get in touch at enquiries@abrh.org.uk.
As we move into the busy season, we wish everyone — and all our reindeer — a happy, healthy, and successful 2025 season. Remember, as part of this Association, you’re supported by a community that understands and shares your passion.
